As regards the other part of the task, viz. The subsequent identification of the students; roughly speaking, about five-sixths of them have been in some way or other accounted for. By this is meant that some clue concern ing their career, other than that contained in the Admission entry itself, or in the Degree lists, has been discovered, such as may be of use to the historian or genealogist. If the phrase 'identification' is extended so as to include election to a scholarship, or subsequent graduation, the proportion of failures will be reduced to something like one in eight or nine. Most of our identifications are reasonably certain; some are only probable: but I have thought that to reject the latter would be to miss an opportunity of being useful, so I have inserted them with an expression of doubt. At worst they may serve as suggestions, which those who are interested in the particular names in question may care to follow up: and in any case they will be of service to those who undertake similar work for other colleges.
