On distingue deux sortes de questions, savoir les théorèmes et les problème:. Dans les théorèmes, on se propose d'établir certaines propriétés de nombres, au moyen d'un raisonnement, appelé Démon ration. Dans les problèmes, ou a pour but de trouver des nombres in connus, à l'aide d'autres nombres donnés, qui ont avec les premiers, des relations indiquées par l'énoncé de la question. Résoudre un pro blème, c'est effectuer les raisonnemens et les calculs qui conduisent aux valeurs des quantités inconnues.
