Il y fit ses premiers débuts sur la petite scène de la foire saint-laurent, le 19 août 1756, par un opéra-comique le Diable quatre, imité de l'anglais, et dont le compositeur Duni(1) écrivit les ariettes. Le succès en fut assez Vif, la pièce est bien disposée pour la musique et quelques airs en sont même très agréables. On y trouve surtout un couplet, sur le tabac, qui se chante encore aujourd'hui (2)
