Excerpt from The Position of the Episcopal Church in Scotland Since the Revolution in 1688: A Sermon Preached in S. Mary's Church, Glasgow, on the 7th of March, 1880
Such then is the present position of our Church in Scotland - the same, yet not the same - not the same, indeed, in out ward circumstances as when proscribed and persecuted, but the same in Faith and Discipline whether proscribed or tolerated. Surely then, my brethren, we may, and ought, humbly and gratefully to acknowledge that the Lord hath done great things for us' whereof we rejoice, and t/zat not by might, not by power -for we were in ourselves powerless - but by His Spirit. Not unto us, 0 Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy Name, be ascribed all honour, praise, and power.
