« L'amitié est si étroitement liée à la définition de la philosophie que l'on peut dire que sans elle la philosophie ne serait pas possible. L'intimité entre amitié et philosophie est si profonde que celle-ci inclut le philos, l'ami, dans son nom même. »
Giorgio Agamben relit Aristote pour retrouver la signification de l'amitié. L'ami est un autre soi-même avec lequel on partage le fait d'exister, la douceur même de vivre. C'est pourquoi l'amitié ouvre l'espace d'une communauté et d'une politique qui précèdent toute identité et tout partage.
