Because they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear Of Jehovah. They would have none Of my counsel 5 They despised all my reproof 5 And they shall eat Of the fruit Of their own ways, And be filled with their own devices. For the backsliding Of the simple Shall slay them, And the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, And shall be quiet from fear of evil.' My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee 5 So that thou give thine ear unto wisdom, And incline thy heart to understanding 5 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, And liftest up thy voice for understanding 5 If thou seekest for her as silver, And searchest for her as for hidden treasures 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear Of Jehovah, And thou shalt find the knowledge Of God. For Jehovah giveth wisdom 5 From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
