Excerpt from The Medico-Chirurgical Review, and Journal of Practical Medicine, Vol. 50: January, 1847
He was buried at St. Martin's-in-the-fields; but the only record of this admirable physiologist, whose life thus fell a sacrifice to his unceasin zeal for the advancement Of science, is a meagre entry in the register. Surely some more honourable memorial should hand down to posterity the name and sterling merits of one of the brightest ornaments our profession has ever produced. If the proposition were once judiciously made, we have no doubt funds would readily be found to erect a tablet to the memory of a man equally esteemed in private and in public life.
