Toto trasse umili natali, e niuno più di lui se ne com piace e ne va, a ragione, orgoglioso, cosi che egli si sente felice allora che, conducendosi nel suo caro Trastevere natio, gli l'an ressa attorno nipotini immaginari, che egli acca rezza, bacia, regala di quanto ha. Eppure, per non par lare di altre opere, ditemi se v'ba sulla scena signore piu fine, più squisito, più vero di Toto Cotogni in veste di Marchese di Posa nel Don Carlos di Verdi. Ma tutte le sue interpretazioni sono classiche e tipiche, vero modello di canto e di azione. Per buona ventura Cotogni ha tatto scuola, chè del suo canto sublime ha tanti degni imitatori, fulgida pleiade di artisti romani, onoranti nell'armoniosa Clio la cara città natale.
