Seit 1979 begleitet und analysiert Ars Electronica nun bereits die digitale Revolution und ihre mannigfaltigen Auswirkungen. Im Fokus standen und stehen dabei stets Prozesse und Trends an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Technologie und Gesellschaft. Sichtbar wird diese künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Recherche in Gestalt eines alljährlich in Linz (Österreich) ausgerichteten Festivals, dessen fünftägiges Programm Konferenzen, Podiumsdiskussionen, Workshops, Ausstellungen, Performances, Interventionen und Konzerte umfasst. Geplant, organisiert und umgesetzt wird das Festival gemeinsam mit internationalen Künstlern und Wissenschaftlern. Im Fokus steht dabei stets ein anderes brisantes Zukunftsthema. In diesem Jahr sind es die "Radical Atoms and the Alchemists of the Future". Mit Bildern und Texten dokumentiert das Buch die diesjährige Ausgabe des Ars Electronica Festival.

Christine Schöpf, Studium der Germanistik und Romanistik; seit 1981 Leiterin des Ressorts Kultur/Wissenschaft im ORF Oberösterreich, Schwerpunkt Ars Electronica, seit 1987 Prix Ars Electronica.
Gerfried Stocker, geboren 1964, Medienkünstler, Musiker, Ingenieur für Nachrichtentechnik. 1991 Gründung von x-space. Seit 1995 Geschäftsführer und künstlerischer Leiter des Ars Electronica Center.
Riassunto
Ars Electronica has been accompanying and analyzing the digital revolution and its manifold implications since 1979. It has consistently focused and focuses on processes and trends at the interface between art, technology, and society. This artistic-scientific research becomes visible in the form of a festival that is organized every year in Linz (Austria). Its five-day program comprises conferences, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, performances, interventions, and concerts. The event is planned, organized, and produced in collaboration with international artists and scientists. Each festival addresses a different volatile future issue. This year it is the “Radical Atoms and the Alchemists of the Future.” The volume uses images and texts to sketch this year’s edition of the Ars Electronica Festival.
