Excerpt from Psalms of the Pharisees, Commonly Called the Psalms of Solomon
The raison d'etre of this book is to be sought for partly in L the fact that the Psalms of Solomon recently formed one of the subjects selected for the Theological Tripos by the Special Board of Theological Studies in the University of Cambridge, and partly in the fact that existing editions and commentaries were in many respects unsatisfactory, and difficult of access. It is hoped that the present edition will meet the needs of English students, at all events until the publication of the long-promised work of Dr Oscar von Gebhardt.
To the Syndics of the University Press we would express our sincere thanks for the publication of our book. We wish it were more worthy of the privilege thus accorded to it.
