Ulteriori informazioni

Traditional institutions in Nigeria for many years have come under criticisms from the public as being oppressive, unjust and corrupt, that cannot aid development. It was this attack that aroused the need for this work. The work is aimed at examining the relationship between the traditional institutions authority and the new political democratic principles and how this has benefit for political and social development, with specific interest in Kano Emirate Council. Primary and secondary data were used, like having oral discussions with the deputy Secretary Kano Emirate Council, the Southern representative of the Emirate Council and books like Evolution of political culture in Nigeria by Ajayi and Ikara. The Emirates of Northern Nigeria,a Preliminary Survey of their Historical Tradition by Hogben and Greene among others as references. The research findings revealed that traditional institutions promote developments like any other development agencies contrary to the believe that they hinder developments. They play great roles in political and social development through giving of advice and Guidance to politicians, adjudication of matters, crisis management and mobilization programmes.
