Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Meinertz, geb. 1944, war nach Stationen an den Universitätskliniken Mainz und Freiburg und dem Krankenhaus St. Georg in Hamburg von 1994 bis 2011 Direktor am Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf, zuletzt als Leiter der Klinik und Poliklinik für Kardiologie und Angiologie des Universitären Herzzentrums. Seit 2010 ist er Vorstandsvorsitzender der Deutschen Herzstiftung. Prof. Meinertz ist Herausgeber zahlreicher medizinischer Lehrbücher und Verfasser von über 400 Fachpublikationen. 2011 erhielt er die Carl-Ludwig-Ehrenmedaille, die höchste Auszeichnung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kardiologie.
