Submarine Communications Cables - The backbone of world communication

A submarine communications cable is a type of cable which is spread under the ocean for the purpose of transmitting telecommunication services (e.g. telephone, data and internet signals) between countries and continents. The first commercially successful submarine cable was laid between England and France in 1850. Subsequently, the construction of an intercontinental submarine communications cable took place in the late 1850, designed for telegraph communications. Nowadays, hundreds of submarine communications cables are connecting societies all over the world, supplying a better communications infrastructure.
