Wilhelm Grimm, geb. am 24. Februar 1786 in Hanau, gestorben am 16. Dezember 1859 in Berlin, lehrte in den 1830er Jahren in Göttingen, war Mitglieder der Göttinger Sieben und ab 1841 der Preußischen Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Jacob arbeitete er an den "Kinder- und Hausmärchen", den "Sagen" und vor allem am "Deutschen Wörterbuch", das ab 1854 entstand. Sie gelten als Gründer der Deutschen Philologie und Germanistik.
