Rache, Zorn, Neid - Zur Faszination negativer Emotionen in der Kultur und Literatur des Mittelalters

Im Fokus des Bandes stehen mit Rache, Zorn und Neid negative Emotionen, die in der Literatur und Kultur des Mittelalters einen zentralen Stellenwert einnehmen. Es sind soziale Gefühle, die in den damaligen Gesellschaften destruktive wie konstruktive Potenzen entwickeln konnten, d.h. sie wirkten gemeinschaftsbildend und -absichernd wie gemeinschaftsauflösend. In den Untersuchungen des Bandes, die sich dem höfischen Roman wie dem Minnesang und auch der Novellistik widmen, werden die spezifischen Konturen dieser Emotionen und ihre vielfältigen poetischen Funktionen analysiert.

Vengeance, anger and envy are negative emotions crucial to medieval literature and culture. They are social emotions with destructive as well as constructive potential, that is to say, they created and stabilized but also destroyed communities at that time. The contributors to this volume analyse the specific shape of these emotions and the multiple poetic functions they fulfill in courtly romances, comic tales and lyric poetry of the Middle Ages.
