This is the first book on higher education framed within the context of knowledge democracy, a discourse that recognises a diversity of traditions and forms of representation, and the use of knowledge as an organising strategy for social change. Based on a three-year international comparative study undertaken by the Global Alliance on Community Engaged Research, the book draws on the experience and insights of thirty-seven scholars and practitioners from the Global South and North to provide a theoretical overview of knowledge, democracy and action, and analyse what it takes to create and sustain community-university research partnerships.
