Old travel guides describe Dinan as a "picturesque
town" which inspires artists. This is still a fitting
description today. The town expanded rapidly in the
Middle Ages due to its harbour on the river Rance,
its dynamic residents and its outstanding setting.
The belfry - a symbol of the town's wealth and
independence - still stands proud today, testifying to
the town's former prestige. Dinan has preserved

and along its quaysides. Ramparts, churches, half-timbered
houses and mansions form a matchless
and harmonious architectural ensemble. Wander
along the narrow streets with their descriptive
names and visit the churches or inner courtyards,
not forgetting to look up and admire the many
architectural details that give Dinan all its
originality and charm.
