Dieser Band befasst sich mit der Lösung von nicht-steifen, gewöhnlichen Differentialgleichungen. Das erste Kapitel beschreibt die historische Entwicklung der klassischen Theorie von Newton, Leibniz, Euler und Hamilton bis hin zu Grenzzykeln und seltsamen Attraktoren. In einem zweiten Kapitel werden Runge-Kutta- und Extrapolationsmethoden behandelt. Weitere Themen sind stetige Methoden für dichten Output, parallele Runge-Kutta-Methoden, spezielle Methoden für Hamiltonsche Systeme, Differentialgleichungen zweiter Ordnung und Gleichungen mit nacheilendem Argument. Das dritte Kapitel beginnt mit der klassischen Theorie der Mehrschrittverfahren und schließt mit der Theorie der allgemeinen linearen Methoden ab.
