La historia de amor más intensa de la literatura portuguesa ahora la podemos encontrar dentro de la Biblioteca José Saramago, colección dedicada al Premio Nobel de 1998.
En el ambiente opresivo, cerrado y polvoriento de la Conservaduría General del Registro Civil trabaja como escribiente don José, un soltero solitario que un buen día decide crear su particular registro de personas famosas. No contento con los datos que le proporcionan periódicos y revistas, resuelve completarlos con los que posee, tan a mano, en el Registro. Para ello no tendrá más remedio que violar alguna de las normas de la Conservaduría.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Don Jose is a lonely, humble, and insignificant government worker at the office of vital statistics. As an innocent pastime, he starts collecting news about the rich and famous. When he notices gaps and contradictions in the lives of these public figures, he decides to fix them by registering fantasy events in the record books.
About the author
José Saramago, geboren am 16. November 1922 in Azinhaga in der portugiesischen Provinz Ribatejo, entstammt einer Landarbeiterfamilie. Nach dem Besuch des Gymnasiums arbeitete er als Maschinenschlosser, technischer Zeichner und Angestellter. Später war er Mitarbeiter eines Verlags und Journalist bei verschiedenen Lissabonner Tageszeitungen. Ab 1966 widmete er sich verstärkt der Schriftstellerei. Während der Salazar- Diktatur gehörte er zur Opposition. Der Romancier, Erzähler, Lyriker, Dramatiker und Essayist erhielt 1998 den Nobelpreis für Literatur. Er starb am 18. Juni 2010 auf Lanzarote.
