Arsenic, a known carcinogen and a toxic metalloid, is slowly engulfing the entire world under its influence. Not only humans, but plants too are suffering from its toxic effects. The soils of many regions of the world have become contaminated and unfit for cultivation of especially arsenic sensitive crops. Moreover, irrigation with arsenic laden water has exacerbated this problem by further adding arsenic to the soil. The PhD thesis which is presented here as a book presents a concise account of arsenic toxicity starting from its historical background to its present status as an environmental pollutant. The global scenario of arsenic pollution as well as its status in India has been included in this bulletin. Impact of arsenic on plants especially black gram and maize has been dealt in detail. Mitigation strategies for arsenic removal have also been suggested. This will help the readers to understand the toxicological aspects of arsenic on plants in a more comprehensive manner.

Dr. Saumya Srivastava is currently holding the position of Scientist (Plant Physiology) at ICAR ¿ AICRP, Lucknow. She did her PhD in Botany from University of Lucknow in 2014. She is recipient of several gold medals and awards. She has published many research articles and book chapters in various National and International journals.
