Alphaville waren nicht zu beneiden: nach dem Debut Forerver Young einen Nachfolger zu produzieren, welcher auch nur halbwegs das Niveau von Scheibe 1 halten kann, wäre für jede Band schwierig. Afternoons... ist ein gutes Album, solide, aber mit weniger Glanz und Hits als Forever Young (welches wirklich für immer jung zu tönen scheint). Als Nachfolger war Afternoons sicher gelungen, aber die Kreativität war erst beim 3. Album (Breathtaking Blue) wieder auf dem Höhepunkt.
