Egocentrico e megalomane direttore d`orchestra convive da anni con una bella arpista. Tutti li credono sposati. Lei gli fa da musa, ma quando, stanca del suo impossibile carattere, crede di innamorarsi di un altro, gli chiede di sposarla per divorziare poi, salvando così le apparenze. Si sposano e scoprono di amarsi ancora. Da una pièce (1958) di Harry Kurnitz (recitata a Broadway da Joseph Cotten e Arlene Francis). Ultimo film di K. Kendall (Justine McCarthy 1926-59), moglie di Rex Harrison, morta di leucemia.
