About the author

Max Steele's other books include another short-story collection, Where She Brushed Her Hair, and a novel, Debby, for which he won the Harper Prize and the Mayflower Award. He was a founding editor of The Paris Review and recently retired as professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was director of the program in creative writing.
