About the author










Garth J. O. Fletcher is a Reader in the Psychology Department at the University of Canterbury. He is a leading researcher in the study of social cognition in intimate relationships.
Margaret S. Clark is Professor of Social Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. She has written extensively on emotion and social behavior including Affect and Cognition (1982) and Emotion and Social Behaviour (1992).

das Vorurteil einer immer noch eher defizitären Altersvorstellung. Rolf
D. Hirsch räumt auf mit der überholten Vorstellung (und Entschuldigung),
der Mensch sei im Alter zu starr und zu uneinsichtig. Ältere und alte Menschen
sind durchaus in der Lage, Neues zu lernen, ihr Verhalten gezielt zu ändern.
Ein im Laufe des Lebens 'erlerntes störendes Verhalten' kann auch verlernt
werden. Die Verhaltenstherapie bietet heute eine Palette von Methoden an,
z. B. operante Methoden, systematische Desensibilisierung, Training von
Selbststeuerung und sozialer Kompetenz sowie Problemlösungstraining. Das
Buch ermutigt Therapeuten, mit älteren und alten Menschen zu arbeiten,
gibt erprobte Konzepte weiter und ist nicht zuletzt auch ein Gewinn für
kundige ältere Leser. Verblüffend einfach verdeutlichen vor allem die Fallgeschichten,
