The possibility of life on other worlds has long been the subject of endless speculation - and more, of scientific research. The improving knowledge of the process that might lead to the creation of life elsewhere is matched by the greater sophistication of searches for some sign of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. SETI - the search for extraterrestrial intelligence is undergoing something of a re-birth, and alongside the work of the scientists almost a million of PC users round the world are participating in the SERENDIP IV project through the 'SETI at Home' initiative from Berkeley University.
