Hamtramck's population bulged to 56,000 from a mere 3,500 in the early twentieth century, a sixteen-fold increase that created the perfect environment for crime and corruption to flourish. About the author
Greg Kowalski has written five books on Hamtramck. He's the editor of the Birmingham Eccentric newspaper. He's also the chairman of the Hamtramck Historical Commission and is a member of both the Michigan Historical Society and the Algonquin Club, an organization of local historians from the southeast Michigan-Windsor, Ontario region. Through the historical commission, Kowalski also leads weekly tours of Hamtramck.
