Heroic Elegy and Triumphal Epilogue - Study Score

The manuscript score is the only extant source for this work. Heroic Elegy, written on tow gatherings of eight folios, is inscribed 'Finished 1.40 a.m. Jan. 22, 1901'. Triumphal Epilogue, on six gatherings of varying numbers of folios, is inscribed 'Finished Nov. 6, 1901 / Revised Aug-Sept 1902'. The two movements are bound together, although separate pagination and title pages underscore the different dates of composition.

Summary

"The Heroic Elegy and Triumphal Epilogue" was composed in 1901. The Elegy dates from January and the Epilogue towards the end of the year, in early November. Both movements were performed by the Leeds Municpal Orchestra on the 21st January 1905 and this appears to have been the last performance of the work in the UK.
