Informationen zum Autor Kazys Boruta (1905-1965) was a Lithuanian writer and poet. Born during the era of Czarist domination over Lithuania, his leftist leanings brought him arrest, imprisonment, exile, and a ban on his work during the period of independence between the wars. Elizabeth Novickas's translations include Ricardas Gavelis's Vilnius Poker (Open Letter, 2009) and Kazys Boruta's Whitehorn's Windmill (CEU Press, 2010). Klappentext The story is about Whitehorn the miller's efforts to find a match for his beautiful daughter, Jurga, against various calamities with and among suitors, neighbors, priests and other inhabitants of the village, and ultimately against the devil's spell. The interesting plot made the novel popular as juvenile literature, too.
