Informationen zum Autor As an artist, illustrator, graphic designer, and calligrapher, Andrea Mistretta uses striking colors and bold lines to create her brilliant pieces. Mistretta has worked in the commercial art industry since 1979, with such clients as ABC, NBC, and Forbes Magazine . She is the recipient of the prestigious Alberto Vargas Award, as well as awards from the Society of Illustrators and the Art Directors Club. The mayor of New Orleans even bestowed upon her honorary citizenship for her tremendous contribution to the national marketing of Mardi Gras. Her vibrant posters embody the spirit of Carnival and have made their way across the country, even displayed at Disney World and Universal Studios. Devoted to promoting a positive image of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, Mistretta designed tribute postage stamps depicting local jazz favorites Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and King Oliver. She donates a portion of her proceeds of the sales from her Mardi Gras poster series and book to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. While she specializes in poster design, her work has appeared on products ranging from T-shirts and jigsaw puzzles to vodka bottles and stationery. Mistretta also produces original canvas paintings, which are shown at Robin's Gallery on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Mistretta is a member of her community's historical society and the founder of the Italian American Social Club of Wardwick. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award given by the Italian government. Mistretta is an avid environmental activist and member of Friends of White's Pond, where her studio is located.
