About the author

William Bligh wurde 1754 in Plymouth geboren und entstammte einer Familie von Seefahrern. Er war ein Offizier der britischen Marine und Gouverneur von New South Wales in Australien. Weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte Bligh als Kommandierender der HMAV Bounty, auf der 1789 eine Meuterei ausbrach. Er starb 1817 in London.
