Dom Juan ou Le festin de pierre : comédie, 1665

Dom Juan vient de quitter sa femme pour tenter
d'enlever une fiancée à son futur époux. Puis il jette
son dévolu sur de jeunes paysannes qu'il promet
d'épouser. Sganarelle a beau tenter de ramener
son maître dans le chemin de la vertu, Dom Juan
préfère les plaisirs de ce monde, si dangereux
pour son salut, à l'espérance d'une béatitude infinie.
D'autres pourtant l'avertiront qu'«une méchante
vie amène une méchante mort»...
Ce sujet dont Molière s'empare en 1665
a déjà donné lieu à d'assez nombreuses pièces.
Pourtant, rien de plus personnel que ces cinq actes
en prose conduits avec une éclatante maîtrise
qui donne aux personnages la profondeur
de l'humanité vraie. De la farce à l'ironie la plus fine,
la pièce propose tous les registres du comique.
Mais c'est aussi la plus tragique des comédies,
qui prend la dimension d'un drame métaphysique.
