Tapered Tubing Well Completion for Enhanced Production - A Study of Internal Diameter Tubing String

English · Paperback / Softback

Description

Conventional Well Completion involves usually asingle, internal diameter (ID) tubing for producingoil from the subsurface reservoir. As the oil flowsvertically upward, the flowing pressure decreases asa function of depth. This reduction in flowingpressure causes more and more dissolved gases tocome out. Consequently, the flow stream, especiallyfree gas, expands in volume per unit mass flow rate. The motivation of the present study is toinvestigate the effect of gradually increasing thetubing inside diameter (ID) as the fluid moves upthe string. We call this Tapered ID Tubing WellCompletion (TTWC), which is expected to give higherflow rates of oil. Thus, we performed numerousstudies using nodal analysis for various tubing sizecombination, and also economic analysis over theentire producing life of the well. The study revealsthat the higher flow rates possible through TTWC notonly offsets the additional capital expenditure, butalso gives significant economic benefits compared tothe conventional single tubing completion.
