Juan Garcia Ponce (1932-2003) belongs to one of the most accomplished and talented generations of Mexican Literature. His fiction ranges from short stories to one of the longest novels written in 20th century Mexico, Cronica de la intervencion. He translated and wrote about Central European writers such as Robert Musil and Pierre Klossowski. Always set in a contemporary context, a common denominator of Garcia Ponces stories and novels is his interest in eroticism, but perhaps more accurately, his obssesion with the assimetry of desire, and he is one of the first to write about modern self-centered femenine characters.
