Ezra Schabas, CM, O.Ont., has known Jan Rubes for half a century. A leading figure in Canada's musical life, his books include the prize-winning Sir Ernest MacMillan (1994), Opera Via: A History of the Canadian Opera Company (2000) with Carl Morey, and There's Music in These Walls: A History of the Royal Conservatory of Music (2005).
