About the author

Mark R. Wiesner, Ph.D., is a professor of Environmental Engineering and former director of the Environmental & Energy Systems Institute (EESI). Dr. Wiesner's research pioneered the applications of nanomaterials to membrane science and water treatment and an examination of the possible risks posed by these materials to human health and the environment. Jean-Yves Bottero, Ph.D., is the head of France's Geoscience and Environmental Laboratory. He specializes in the physical chemistry of organic, inorganic, and heterogeneous contaminants; the physicochemical properties of surfaces; mechanisms of coagulation and flocculation; and water and wastewater treatment.
