On the Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden Adolf Hitler had rented in 1927 a small house, which he acquired in 1933 and has expanded in 1936 into the pompous Berghof. The immediate surroundings become off-limits zone, long-time local inhabitants have to leave their houses becoming victims to demolition. In their places, the Fuehrer has big SS barracks built, administrative buildings, and residential houses for his closest confidents. At the end of April 1945, an Allied air raid destroyed a great part of the buildings. Since 1999 the Documentation Obersalzberg offers the necessary information at an idyllic site about a dark past. Maik Koplecks PAST FINDER takes you to the well-known and lesser known sites of this history. It gives a concise account of the historic events. Several maps and a clear graphic design let you put together your own sightseeing tour and provide quick orientation at each location.
