Description
The book
Engineering Smart and Sustainable Systems Using Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Materials, and Renewable Energies
is part of a global scientific dynamic where innovation, sustainability, and technological intelligence converge to address the major challenges of our time. In this context, the Private University of Fès (UPF) stands out as a key player in scientific and technological innovation in Morocco. Through its state-of-the-art research centers, technological platforms, and international collaborations, UPF actively contributes to the development of solutions integrating artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and renewable energies. Among these structures, the Center of Excellence in Batteries, led by the renowned Professor Rachid Yazami, a global pioneer in lithium-ion technology, is a strategic pillar. Under the editorial leadership of Professor Mohammed Ouazzani Jamil, Vice-President of the Private University of Fès, this book brings together contributions from international researchers, engineers, and experts.
This volume offers a rich and updated overview of advances in the engineering of intelligent and sustainable systems. The chapters address:
• Emerging applications of artificial intelligence in energy and industrial systems;
• Recent developments in advanced materials and their innovative applications;
• Strategies for integrating renewable energies for the design of high-performance systems;
• Major advances in storage technologies related to the work of the Center of Excellence in Batteries;
• Systemic approaches are necessary to meet global sustainability requirements.
We hope this publication becomes an essential reference for all those aspiring to understand, rethink, and shape the smart and sustainable systems of tomorrow.

About the author
Dr. Mohammed OUAZZANI JAMIL, currently vice-president of the UPF (Private University of Fez), is a professor of physics (modelization & dynamical systems) at the Private University of Fez and directs the Intelligent Systems, Energy, and Sustainable Development Laboratory. He oversaw accreditation projects for engineering, IT, and other disciplinary fields. He also participated in the creation and accreditation of the UPF doctoral studies center (Ph.D. diploma) and, until 2015, was a professor at the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University of Fez. He is a founding member of the Moroccan Society of Statistical Physics and Condensed Matter. He is the national coordinator of the thematic « Dynamical and Complex Systems » of the Competences Pole of Condensed Matter and Systems Modeling. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Moroccan Journal of Condensed Matter. The main interest topics of Mohammed OUAZZANI JAMIL are integrability of dynamical systems, chaos control, and neural networks. He is a co-author of more than 120 research publications, book chapters and conference presentations He has co-chaired or co-organized several international conferences. He supervised 27 postgraduate research candidates.
Dr. El Mehdi El Khattabi, founder of the consulting office SOLAR UTION, is actually a professor at the University Moulay Ismaïl of Meknes and an associate professor at a private university in Fez (UPF). He has experience as a professional trainer in energy efficiency, thermal housing, solar pumping, and renewable energy, which he acquired at the national level in universities such as the University Al Akhawayn Ifrane and the Ministry of Equipment and in industrial sectors such as Saint-Gobain and Strugal. In addition, at the international level, it takes place in academic institutions such as the Technical University of Lithuania (VGTU) and the University of Lorraine. His research areas include the monitoring, use, and measurement of the energy efficiency of buildings in real-life situations. He is particularly interested in energy diagnostic processes and in new targeted techniques for optimizing the performance of energy systems adapted to each climatic condition and local resource. In 2002/2020, he was nominated for the prestigious international prize Eni Awad (called the Nobel Prize of energy) for the research work entitled "A thermal diagnostic method based on a new approach of wall discretization in a dynamic state."
Dr. Mourad BOUTAHIR is a professor at Moulay Ismail University in Morocco. His research interests include the development of molecular dynamics and ab initio computational methods. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 in the advanced materials and applications laboratory (LEM2A), Faculty of Sciences, Morocco. After, he was doing a postdoctoral supervised by Dr. José Mejia Lopez at the center of nanotechnology and advanced materials investigation (CIEN-UC), Chile. His career goal is to be a leading scientist in either an academic research laboratory, a comparable industry-based institution, or a non-profit research institution in the field of solar cells. He developed a strong computational method including different methods and has strong knowledge as a solar (PV) designer in order to be part of the future of solar cells. He has published more than 43 research articles in SCI(E) journals and has +380 citations.
Mr Mahesh Kumar Goyal is a data architect with a proven track record of driving impactful solutions at the intersection of data, Artificial intelligence, and sustainability.
