About the author

Wilkie Collins (1824–1889) was a popular English novelist, playwright and writer of short stories, best-known today for the groundbreaking The Woman in White, which has famously been adapted for the stage by Andrew Lloyd Webber. In his lifetime his work was overshadowed by that of his close friend Charles Dickens, but his books gathered acclaim after his death.A much-loved children's author and former Waterstones bookseller, Katherine Woodfine has written nearly 20 books for children, including the Sinclair’s Mysteries and Taylor & Rose Secret Agents series. Her first novel, The Clockwork Sparrow, was a Sunday Times bestseller and was nominated for numerous awards. A champion of children’s literature, she has previously worked on projects including the Children’s Laureate, YALC and children’s books podcast Down the Rabbit Hole. She now combines writing with reviewing children’s books. Katherine lives in Lancashire. Find out more at katherinewoodfine.co.uk
