The Pictorially Extended Mind - Introduction to the Cognitive Semiotics of the Picture Sign

What is peculiar about the way meaning is conveyed by pictures, and what do pictures share with other semiotic means? The book takes account, positively and negatively, of the approach to pictures pioneered by structuralist semiotics. It also tries to make sense of the rather vague notion of extended cognition propounded within cognitive science, by using phenomenological analysis and applying the notion to the specific case of pictures.
