The Story Bible Study Guide plus Streaming Video, Updated Edition - Getting to the Heart of God's Story
English · Paperback / Softback
Will be released 30.06.2026
Description
Throughout the Bible--from its opening pages to the culmination of Christ's return--two parallel dramas are unfolding. First, there is a lower story, which describes the events from our human perspective. The lower story, our story, is actually the stories of many men and women interacting with God in the daily course of life. But there is also an upper story, which reveals how the events are unfolding from heaven's perspective. The upper story, God's story, is the tale of his overarching purpose that puts all the individual stories together like panels in one unified mural.
The goal of The Story Bible Study is to give you "bifocal lenses" so you can see what is happening in both these lower and upper stories. As you read these narratives, you will see how God has been weaving our lower story into the greater upper story that he has been writing.

Tom is one of the founders of the Neighborhood Collective and the Minister of Community Life at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, where he serves on the senior staff with Max Lucado and Randy Frazee. As a church planter and founding pastor in Indianapolis, Tom transitioned his church to a neighborhood model back in 2000. In 2007, he went to Pantego Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where The Connecting Church model was first implemented. In 2009, Tom moved to The Ascent Church in Monument, Colorado, to serve as their Executive Pastor and was the chief architect for their transition to a neighborhood model. In 2013, Tom oversaw a church merger which positioned The Ascent Church as a multi-site church pursuing a neighborhood model. In 2014, Tom came to San Antonio to join the senior staff at Oak Hills Church. Oak Hills opened her 7th campus in 2015, and currently has over 10,000 people in weekend attendance.
Tom’s work in neighborhood in a small church plant, in the original Connecting Church, in a church merger environment, and in a gigachurch gives him a unique perspective on how to lead and transition a church in a neighborhood model.
Tom has been married since 1991, and he is the proud father to eight children!
