This book proposes an analytical framework covering eight strata in three classes. Based on the data from a large-scale random questionnaire survey on the theme of Social Development and Social Construction organized and implemented by Shanghai University from 2012 to 2013, this book expounds the distribution and evolutionary trend of eight strata in three classes in aspects such as education, income, housing, inter-generational mobility, intra-generational mobility, stratum identification, social interaction and marital matching from the four aspects of social stratification and interest relationship adjustment, social contradiction and conflict integration, strata distinctions and social distinctions, as well as consciousness and psychology of social strata. About the author
Zhang Wenhong, Ph.D., dean, distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Sociology at Nankai University, vice president of the Chinese Sociological Association, vice president of the Society for the Study of Social Changes, and vice chairman of the National Steering Committee on Teaching Sociology Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. He is a leading talent in philosophy and social sciences of the National Ten Thousand Talents Program and an expert who enjoys special government allowances from the State Council. He received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and master’s degree in law at Nankai University and his doctorate in philosophy (sociology) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has been engaged in research and teaching at Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai University and Nankai University successively. His research fields mainly include social networks and social capital, as well as social stratification and social mobility. He has presided over 20 projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, such as the “Research on the Social Stratification and Mobility and Harmonious Interaction” which has been funded by the National Social Science Fund of China.
