About the author

Matthew Henry Nació en Broad Oak, Iscoid, Gales, el 18 de octubre de 1662. Matthew Henry se convirtió al cristianismo a los diez años (1672). Estudió Derecho y fue ordenado en 1687; ejerció el pastorado en Chester, desde ese mismo año hasta 1712. Comenzó a enseñar el Antiguo Testamento por las mañanas y el Nuevo por las tardes. Esto constituyó la base para su futuro Comentario, que tuvo inicio en 1704; sin embargo, murió en 1714 y trece teólogos no conformistas se encargaron de completarlo. Su teología es un fiel testimonio de la verdad evangélica, enfatizando la depravación total del hombre y la gracia soberana y salvadora de Dios. Su obra demuestra una profunda capacidad espiritual y una gran erudición, producto de su gran conocimiento del griego y del hebreo.
