About the author

Michális S. Michael
is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at La Trobe University and former Director of the Centre for Dialogue–Global Reconciliation. Michael’s work involves a meticulous examination of intergroup and international conflicts through dialogue engagement. Through various case studies, he explores the conditions under which disputants can shift their attitudes and perceptions by considering alternative engagement methods in entrenched situations. Essentially, his research aims to deepen our understanding of the increasingly complex and often volatile social, political, and cultural environments that conflict affects, along with the pressures it places on governance and societies. By examining the necessity of dialogue in conflict settings, his work assesses how dialogue can best serve as an effective communication form that surpasses traditional mediation and negotiation paradigms, offering both governmental and non-governmental entities new opportunities to reduce polarisation and enhance prospects for constructive engagement.
