The book History of the Deaf People of Porto Alegre: Images and Signs of a Cultural Trajectory narrates, through photographs, the evolution of deaf policies in Porto Alegre. The documentation of these important events for the local deaf community has made it possible to record the development and articulations made by deaf people in search of recognition as a cultural group and not as deficient subjects, from the 1950s to the present day. The stories recorded in the photographs, narrated by their protagonists, show the construction of the Deaf Community, step by step, historically.
