In recent years, the critical importance of addressing environmental sustainability in various sectors, including healthcare and biomedicine, has become increasingly apparent. These fields often rely on traditional materials and manufacturing methods that significantly harm the environment, from depleting resources to generating pollution and waste. Concurrently, advancements in materials science have led to the development of "green" or eco-friendly materials, which promise to lessen environmental damage while maintaining or even enhancing performance. Green and Sustainable Materials for Biomedical Applications examines the applications and advantages of green materials within biomedical engineering and sustainable development. Written by an international team of contributors, it shows how innovative green materials can contribute positively to healthcare and other areas, by merging perspectives from materials science, biomedical engineering, and sustainability studies

About the author

Dr Sanjeev Gautam leads an independent research group, the Advanced Functional Materials Lab., at Panjab University, India. He has 25+ years of experience with over 161+ international publications. He completed his PhD (2007) in condensed matter physics at the Centre of Advanced Study in Physics, Panjab University. He worked as a grid-computing administrator for the CMS (LHC) project. Dr Gautam then worked at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea (2007–2014). At Panjab University (2014 onwards), he has received international and national grants in the field of nanotechnology sustainable energy, food technology, catalysts, and environmental safetyProfessor Keun Hwa Chae received his B.Sc. Physics in 1986 and M.Sc. Physics in 1988 from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. In 1994, he received his Ph.D. Degree in Physics from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He was a post-doctoral fellow from 1995 to 1997 at Rutgers ‐The State University of New Jersey, USA. He is currently working as a principal research scientist at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Korea (since 2000). His research fields include ion beam modification of materials and characterization of materials using synchrotron radiation with special emphasis on ferrite research.Dr. Sandhir obtained his M.Sc and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He has been with the Panjab University, Chandigarh, for more than 20 years. His research interests are the biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of neurodegenerative conditions like metabolic encephalopathies, dementia's and brain injury with a particular interest to understand the role of oxidative stress, mitochondria and alterations in the Blood-Brain-Barrier. In addition, is also interested in identifying neuroprotective strategies that could ameliorate neurodegenerative conditions. His recent work focuses on mitochondrial dysfunctions in various neurological conditions and to identify various mitochondrial modulators that may be beneficial in protecting nervous systems.
