About the author










Daniel J. Madigan is a Professor of Sport and Health Psychology at York St John University, UK. His research focuses on the predictors, consequences, and prevention of burnout in various achievement contexts. He has produced over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in this area. He holds Accreditation with the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and has previously served as Editor of the International Journal of Sport Psychology.
Henrik Gustafsson is a Professor of Sport Science at Karlstad University, Sweden, and a Visiting Professor at the Norwegian School of Sport Science. His research focuses on burnout in sport. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in this area. He is an accredited sport psychologist and has supported Swedish national athletes at three Olympic Games and serves as a Sector Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports.
Luke F. Olsson is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. His research focuses on vulnerabilities and consequences of athlete burnout. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in this area. He is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and serves as an Associate Editor of Anxiety, Stress, and Coping.
J.D. DeFreese is a Teaching Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. His research focuses on the motivational and psychosocial predictors of athlete burnout and athlete transition out of sport. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in these areas. He edited a recent special issue on burnout in sport in the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology for which he also serves as an Associate Editor.
