Background:Excessive gingival display (EGD), or "gummy smile," is an esthetic concern caused by overexposure of gum tissue while smiling and can result from factors like altered passive eruption, vertical maxillary excess, a hyperactive or short upper lip, or gingival overgrowth.Objective:This review highlights treatment options for EGD based on its underlying cause.Treatment Modalities:Managing excessive gingival display (EGD) requires precise diagnosis and individualized treatment, with options such as gingivectomy, orthodontics, lip repositioning, orthognathic surgery, and restorative procedures based on the underlying cause.Conclusion:Optimal management of excessive gingival display requires a multidisciplinary approach, and accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause is crucial for choosing the most effective treatment, leading to better esthetic results and patient satisfaction.
