Hormones write life''s masterplan: building a baby in utero, growing a rough-and-tumble toddler, lengthening our bones to conjure the adult form, igniting the firestorm of puberty and directing conception, menopause and beyond. All the while, they are controlling our minute-to-minute experiences, from our appetite to our mood, our libido to our stress levels. Here, leading endocrinologist Dr Saira Hameed reveals our astonishing inner communication network - the endocrine lifeforce - in a story of the chemistry of life itself. Combining science, history, and compassionately told patient stories, Signals shows that - rather than good manners or willpower - it is our hormones that control us. Understanding our health and happiness depends on recognising their fundamental power.
