Color, consumer culture, and contemporary art - the striking visual world of Sun Yitian
This bilingual catalogue (English/Chinese) accompanies Sun Yitian's third solo exhibition at Esther Schipper, Berlin. The internationally acclaimed artist is known for her brightly colored acrylic paintings of mass-produced objects, based on her own staged photographs.
Her works transform inflatable toys, dolls' heads, or consumer goods into hyperreal images that dissolve into painterly abstraction on closer inspection. With this interplay between banality and pathos, consumption and individuality, Sun Yitian explores fundamental aspects of contemporary visual culture.
Highlights of the book:

  • First comprehensive bilingual catalogue (English/Chinese) on Sun Yitian's art
  • Richly illustrated with vibrant reproductions of her paintings
  • Includes an in-depth conversation with Udo Kittelmann
  • Features an essay by Chus Martínez
A must-have for collectors, curators, and art lovers interested in the dialogue between consumer culture and contemporary painting.

Sun Yitian (born 1991, Zhejiang) lives and works in Beijing. She studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing a doctorate at Tsinghua University. Her works have been exhibited at the Yuz Museum Shanghai, UCCA Edge, and Esther Schipper Berlin, among others.
