First published in 1605, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes is a timeless satire of chivalric romance and one of the most influential novels in world literature. Part 1 follows Alonso Quixano, a country gentleman so captivated by tales of knights and noble quests that he reinvents himself as Don Quixote, the self-styled "Knight of the Sorrowful Face." With his loyal but skeptical squire, Sancho Panza, he sets out across La Mancha in search of adventure-tilting at windmills he mistakes for giants, freeing criminals who repay him with insults, and entangling himself in the lives of shepherds, innkeepers, and star-crossed lovers.Across fifty-two chapters, Cervantes blends farce, pathos, and biting social commentary, creating a vivid portrait of idealism at odds with reality. This modernized edition of Part 1 preserves the humor, humanity, and layered storytelling that have inspired readers for over four centuries, offering both an engaging comic tale and a profound meditation on dreams, delusions, and the human spirit.
